College Advising Manager

I Know I Can’s College Advising Managers work in our district high schools to help students overcome barriers and achieve their college and career dreams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works to create a college-going culture in the school using real-time data as well as a college and career strategic planning tool
  • Meet individually with students and families to provide support and guidance in the process of preparing for college, including: college search, college admissions, and finding sufficient financial aid
  • Provide group presentations, large and small, for students, parents and district representatives in the schools and at the IKIC office (the presentations range from supporting the district’s college and career hub-Naviance, SchooLinks, or Xello Implementation Plan to pre-college seminars)
  • Work to increase college readiness by educating students, families and district representatives on the programs and services by IKIC

Gear up advisor

I Know I Can’s GEAR UP Advisors work within Reynoldsburg High Schools’ unique environment in order to best serve students while
meeting the GEAR UP site’s expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide one-on-one and group advising on college, careers, test prep, and financial aid.

    • Assist students with applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and navigating the college process.

    • Integrate into the school community by attending key events and meetings.

    • Promote GEAR UP services and track student progress with care and confidentiality.

AmeriCorps: Getting Things Done 

The I Know I Can (IKIC) AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides program places recent college graduates in middle schools and high schools as career and college readiness advisors for Columbus City Schools students in 6th to 10th grades, with a focus on 8th graders. They work alongside full-time IKIC advisors and school staff to ensure that students make educated decisions about their plan for life after high school. They commit to 1,700 hours of service (40 hours per week) over 11 months from August 4th-June 30th. 

AmeriCorps College Guides will receive a compensation that includes a $30,000 living allowance, health insurance and an education award up to $7,395 that can be used to repay qualified student loans or future education expenses.
